I have personally found 'Surround' to be a bit tedious within Reaper, especially for beginners. I assume, you are just doing this for fun and to explore possibilities. From, what I can suggest, that would suit you: a) You can line up your 10 stereo stems. b) You can then drop the ReaSurround plugin on each channel. You will have to handle the correct routing (corresponding to your monitoring channels). You might have to change the parent channels on each track to 6 from 2 (which is generally used for stereo). (In most other DAW's, you will be setup for surround in under 2mins. In Reaper, I sometimes run a few circles.) c) To keep things simple and ensure some level of translation (I'm assuming your 5.1's are not calibrated), you could try mixing in a quad configuration first (Left, Right, Left SR, Right SR). You can push the vocals to the centre channel, mix the rest in Left/Right as you usually would for stereo. This should ensure you at least a decently translatable LCR mix. It is up to you, what you want to send in your surrounds. Some people only send reverbs and delays, others send full instruments. In a 5.1 setup, remember, the surrounds are usually bandwidth limited. I wouldn't recommend any panning automation, unless calibrated. Once again, if this is just for your personal listening, go nuts! There are no rules! ;)
Hi again d the s, Please, retry the link above about my ReaSurround tutorial. I've just added an English translation, written in Italic, to my page. You might now find it more interesting. Good luck Regards
